Match the VPN to your lawful P2P sharing
Peer-to-peer software communicates with other participants, which can expose network addresses to those peers. A VPN changes the address associated with routed traffic, but only if the relevant application stays inside the tunnel. It does not turn an unauthorised download into an authorised one.

The everyday test that matters
Use a legal test file, such as a freely distributed operating-system image, to check your configuration. Avoid unknown installers, executable “codecs,” and archives that ask you to disable security software. Copyright permissions, software authenticity, and network privacy are separate questions.
A setup checklist
- Check that the provider permits your intended P2P use and which servers or plans support it.
- Enable documented failure protection and inspect any split-tunneling exclusions.
- If your client supports network-interface binding, follow its official guide and confirm the correct interface.

The limitation people overlook

Compare the real cost
