Adblock Plus is a free, open-source blocker with an optional paid offering. Its Acceptable Ads setting allows qualifying advertisements by default and can be turned off. It is worth comparing if you want familiar browser controls and a clear choice about allowing some ads, but mobile versions have specific browser limits.

What you are choosing with Adblock Plus
Adblock Plus is a browser blocker with free core functionality and optional Premium features. Its official site offers links for multiple desktop browsers, alongside particular mobile products. Start with the browser you actually use rather than assuming a single download covers the whole device.
It is useful to compare if your priority is reducing everyday advertising with accessible controls. A paid upgrade should be evaluated separately: write down the extra function you need and confirm that it applies to your edition. Installing a free blocker does not, by itself, create a reason to accept a recurring subscription.
Understand Acceptable Ads before judging the result
The Acceptable Ads setting is enabled by default. It allows advertisements that meet the program’s criteria, and users can disable it. As a result, seeing some advertisements after installation does not automatically show that the extension has failed. It may reflect the policy selected in the settings.
Decide what result you want. Some readers prefer to allow a limited class of ads; others prefer to turn off that allowance and manage individual sites themselves. Either way, make an intentional choice and reload a representative page before deciding whether the configuration fits.
Match the mobile version to the browser
The official product page describes Adblock Plus for Safari on iOS, a product for Samsung Internet and an Adblock Browser option for Android. These are not interchangeable with a desktop Chrome extension. Check the intended app and browser before expecting an existing desktop configuration to carry over.
For example, installing a Safari content blocker on an iPhone does not imply that a video app or another browser has the same filtering. If the advertisement appears outside Safari, reconsider the scope of the tool before buying an upgrade. A mismatch in scope cannot be solved merely by changing the subscription tier.
Reasons to consider it
- Free core blocking offers an accessible starting point
- Users can change the default Acceptable Ads preference
Reasons to pause
- Some advertisements are permitted by the initial configuration
- Mobile products are tied to particular browsers or apps
An everyday setup and troubleshooting example
After installation, review the ad preference and visit a few familiar pages. Try navigation menus, a shopping basket and a sign-in flow. If a page breaks, temporarily disable blocking on that site, reload and check whether the missing control returns. Re-enable the blocker before making a more specific exception.
Keep the number of overlapping blockers small. When several extensions all modify the same page, the result is harder to explain and support. If you switch from another product, disable it while evaluating Adblock Plus so that you are comparing one configuration rather than an accidental combination.
When it is a useful choice
Adblock Plus belongs on a shortlist when you value a free starting point and want a visible choice about the advertisements you allow. Readers who prefer the original uBO’s approach on Firefox or Lite’s modern Chrome implementation should compare those settings directly, not simply rely on brand familiarity.
Our view: the most important first step is checking Acceptable Ads and browser scope. Only after that should you assess whether paid extras solve an additional problem. We have not tested an ad-blocking percentage or verified permanent video-site compatibility. Video sites and their delivery methods change, so evaluate the exact viewing method you intend to use.

Questions, answered
Why do I still see some ads?
Acceptable Ads is enabled by default. Check that setting, any site exceptions and whether the advertisement is inside the browser protected by the installed edition.
Must I pay to turn off Acceptable Ads?
The official Acceptable Ads page provides a setting to disable the allowance. Do not confuse that preference with a purchase of optional Premium features.
