Choose for the actual environment
The official uBlock Origin project lists its Chrome Web Store removal date as August 31, 2026. Do not treat an old article or a similarly named store listing as evidence that the original extension remains available. Follow the maintainer’s official project links.
Options worth investigating
uBlock Origin Lite is a separate blocker built around Manifest V3. Compare its filtering modes, permission requirements, and supported browser versions. A lighter permission mode and a broader filtering mode can make different trade-offs; read the description before changing it.

- Review the permissions required for the filtering mode you choose.
- Use the default recommended lists before adding specialised rules.
- Test common sites and learn how to make a temporary exception.
The boundary to keep in mind
Avoid developer-mode packages from unknown file hosts offered as a way to restore an old extension. Manual installation can remove useful distribution safeguards and leave updates unclear. A supported current tool is a better starting point than a mystery archive.

A small business using managed Chrome should ask its administrator about approved extensions. Policies can affect installation and available permissions. A personal troubleshooting guide should not override organisational controls.
